Summary
Frida Kahlo lived and worked at the center of the Mexican Renaissance in the 20's and 30's. At 16, she was involved in a road accident, her paintings reflect the continual struggle with her ravaged body. Kahlo was hailed as a Surrealist by Andre Breton, who described her art as "...being absolutely pure and absolutely pernicious." For her husband, the Cubist and muralist Diego Rivera, her painting "was the greatest proof of the Renaissance of the art of Mexico."
