- Summary
- This program shows the application of the statistical concept of maximum likelihood estimation to archaeology and astronomy. An archaeological puzzle of how to determine the source of ancient ruins is solved using confidence intervals. The second case study concerns radio astronomy and looks at questions about the origins of the universe. Data on the numbers of radio sources of various strengths in the sky is examined, and statistical methods are used to estimate the "best fit" equation that describes the distribution of radio flux density throughout the observable universe"--Container
